WINNER ANNOUNCED: Bríge Dowdall
It’s that time of year again and along with men sporting ridiculous moustaches, another modern tradition is the arrival of Beaujolais Nouveau.
Like last year it’s thanks to Febvre, wine importer and distributor.
A reminder of what Beaujolais Nouveau is
An early release of this year’s harvest from Beaujolais.
What’s it like?
The grape is Gamay, it’s fresh, bursting with bright berries, bubble gum and banana. Not a serious wine, mor fun and fruity.
How to win it…
Pop a comment below, with your thoughts on whether we should just drink wines from Europe to help with the economic crisis.

We should probably do a bit more than just drink wine, even if it is from Europe, but it’s a good start… :)
I’d drink the EU wine lake if I thought it might help.
I think we should drink Greek and Portuguese wines to help those nice-but-troubled guys, but hold back on Mosel rieslings etc until Germany loosens those purse strings a little more!
Come on, Germany – we’re all Europeans!
p.s. (and sorry to jump in with this but it is relevant to Beaujolais Nouveau) We (Bubble Brothers) are having a Beaujolais Nouveau / English Market ‘party’ next Friday and Saturday.
Details here:

As you can see, we’ve a competition too, though Lar is making us look bad by offering 12 wines to our 6 (in our defence, we’ve to give bottles galore to English Market traders for the BN thing later this week!).
Anyway …
There are so many good reasons to concentrate on wines from Europe: quality, range, value, history, air-miles, economy, and of course no-one else makes Burgundy or Champagne!
If France, Spain and Germany don’t need aid (yet) then do you mean we have to concentrate on Greek and Italian products only?
Italy isn’t a problem but Greek wine? Err … pass the Cabernet Sauvignon.
Drink good wine and eat good food then drink more good wine!!! The only reciepe for heath welth and happiness !!!
I like to go week by week. Last week was Spanish wine for me, next week French Beaujolais Nouveau :)
I’m with Ms Curry, if she doesn’t mind sharing the lake.
I like the idea ! I’ll try and do my bit to help with the economic crisis and the environment at the same time. We talk about the food miles but what about the wine miles…
I’m not dure drinking European wine will make that much of a difference but it doesn’t hurt!!
i think we should all drink to a better future who cares where the wine is from just as long as its not cheap plonk
With the duty we are charged any wine consumed supports Irish coffers more than suppliers! So I’ll raise a glass to supporting the Euro zone, in one form or another!
Of course – more for drowning our sorrows than stimulating the economy!
I reckon I mostly buy European wines as it is, but perhaps I should try to buy European exclusively. It can’t do any harm anyway. ‘Tis food (wine?) for thought!
The US has its own issues and needs to export more wine to Europe
I think we should drink the wine we like best regardless of where it is from, but saying that, i think the best wine is to be found in Europe anyway!!
As a member of the European Market and Union, yes, it is incumbent on us to support our Colleague’s wine trades, as we desire them to support the our own own food/drink trades as well. Seeking a good wine first from Europea should feel guilt free and result in a taste of happiness for all.
I think it’s no harm to purchase more European wine but the prohibitive factor for many people is the oppressive taxes placed on alcohol by the government. They talk about generating spending yet then they penalise us with taxes!!
Isn’t Beaujolais Nouveau such a pleasant sounding name.
Pardon my French, but Beaujolais could literally mean Nice and Jolly!
And I don’t think I’ve had it before so I’ll try anything new!

Wine should not be sought to sooth a crisis merely to avoid ruminating upon it.
And lose on on all that lovely Pinot Noir from the New World? No, I quite like this crisis yoke in that case!
