Tea. Coffee. Chocolate. Bananas. Wine.
All produced off the land, and in some cases, for an absolute fraction of what they cost us to consume. Fairtrade is a people’s movement for change that aims to tip the balance of trade in favour of producers so they get a fair price for their hard work.
As we become more discerning about the provenance of the products we buy, Corporate Social Responsibility is now playing a greater role in how companies conduct themselves.
Bewley’s, the Dublin tea and coffee institution are no different. In fact, they’re probably better than most.
Fairtrade Fortnight, 23rd Feb-8th March
Fairtrade fortnight takes place from the 23rd of February to the 8th of March and there’s a photography exhibition starting this Thursday at Bewley’s of Grafton Street. It’s a celebration of Fairtrade Fortnight and there are images of people who work on the Fairtrade farms that supply Bewley’s. It’s free. But, there’s more
Win a prize to Nicaragua
In addition to the photography exhibition, Bewley’s are giving a way a trip to Nicaragua as well as treats for two throughout the fortnight.
All you have to do is check out the Bewleys page on Facebook.

The company that I work for is the world’s only 100% fair trade lender and this past Christmas our MD gave each employee a case of Fairtrade wine.
It used to be that ‘Fairtrade’ and ‘quality’ were not always synonymous, but I can assure you that is now the case. The Fairtrade wine from Chile was some of the best tasting wine in its price range that I have had.
I think that more and more people will be choosing Fairtrade wine not only because it is the ‘right thing to do’, but also because it tastes great as well.
Congratulations on making it to the Irish Blog Awards finalists Lar! You get my vote.
Thanks Maryrose, didn’t expect that. Better start writing my acceptance speech!
