Chateau la Rose Rouge 2000, 13% ABV

I picked this up for €7.95 as part of a “bin end” offer at Mitchell & Son, Kildare Street in Dublin. At that price I wasn’t expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised.

  • Looks: intense deep ruby colour
  • Smells: slightly closed (i.e. not a strong smell) of liquorice, plum and blackcurrant
  • Tastes: Strong tannins, but well balanced. All about plum, licquorice with a smoky or spicey finish which a decent medium length.
  • Verdict: At €8, this is a really really good value wine. It may not win any prizes, but it’s very drinkable.
